Female Goat

Female Goat Highlights

• Reproductive Cycle: Female goats, or does, typically reach sexual maturity between 5 to 12 months of age. They have a gestation period of about 5 months and can give birth to one to several offspring, known as kids, per pregnancy.
• Diet and Nutrition: Goats are browsers, preferring leaves, twigs, and vines over grass. A balanced diet is crucial for milk production and overall health, requiring access to forage, hay, and sometimes supplemental grains.
• Housing and Care: They require adequate shelter from extreme weather and protection from predators. Regular hoof trimming and deworming are essential for maintaining good health.
• Milk Production: Lactation periods for dairy goats typically last 8 to 10 months after kidding. The amount and quality of milk produced can vary significantly based on breed, diet, and health.
• Temperament: Goats are generally curious, intelligent, and social animals. They often form strong bonds within their herd and can become quite tame with regular human interaction.
