Gold Fish for Sale Highlights
- Lifespan & Size: Goldfish can live for 10-15 years or even longer with proper care. Their size varies greatly by breed, with some reaching over a foot in length.
- Tank Requirements: Contrary to popular belief, goldfish require large tanks, not bowls. A single fancy goldfish needs at least 20 gallons, with an additional 10 gallons for each subsequent fish.
- Water Quality: Goldfish are messy and produce a lot of waste, requiring excellent filtration and regular water changes to maintain water quality. Ammonia and nitrite should always be zero.
- Diet & Feeding: They are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet of high-quality goldfish pellets or flakes, supplemented with blanched vegetables like peas or spinach. Feed only what they can consume in 2 minutes, once or twice a day.
- Temperament & Socialization: Goldfish are generally peaceful but can be territorial. Some breeds may nip at long fins of other fish. It's best to house them with other goldfish of similar size and temperament.
- Health Considerations: Common health issues include swim bladder problems, fin rot, and ich. Maintaining pristine water conditions is the best way to prevent most illnesses.
